My quick install guide :
On Ubuntu 14.04, edit the /etc/default/grub file and set the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX value as follows:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="cgroup_enable=memory swapaccount=1"
sudo update-grub
sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade && apt-get install apt-transport-https ca-certificates linux-image-extra-$(uname -r) apparmor
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://p80.pool.sks-keyservers.net:80 --recv-keys 58118E89F3A912897C070ADBF76221572C52609D
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://p80.pool.sks-keyservers.net:80 --recv-keys 58118E89F3A912897C070ADBF76221572C52609D
or behind a proxy :
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver-options http-proxy=http://proxy.nsa.com:9090 --keyserver hkp://p80.pool.sks-keyservers.net:80 --recv-keys 58118E89F3A912897C070ADBF76221572C52609D
echo "deb https://apt.dockerproject.org/repo ubuntu-trusty main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/docker.list
apt-get update && apt-get upgrade && apt-get install docker-engine
With BTRFS (must do this before installing package docker-engine) :
sudo apt-get install btrfs-toolssudo mkfs.btrfs -f /dev/sdbx sudo mkdir /var/lib/docker
#create fstab entry : sudo blkid /dev/sdbx
UUID="a0ed851e-158b-4120-8416-c9b072c8cf47" /var/lib/docker btrfs defaults 0 0
Move docker root dir
/etc/default/docker --> DOCKER_OPTS="-g /data/docker"
